Improve the usability and design of the existing Toyota mobile app

Challenge.

In short - The current Toyota app had a low satisfaction rate by users. It had a major problem among Toyota drivers as it was generating a high volume of dissatisfaction and confusion in social channels. The challenge for me was to dramatically improve the usability of the app and cover more use cases the Toyota owners are complaining about.

Some of the desired goals and features were:

1. To get improved service deals, receive better recall alerts and access maintenance information - all from the app.

2. Improved UX for lock / unlock doors system and engine start / stop system.

3. Support Apple watch, Samsung and Fitbit.

4. Clearer and improved UX for payments. That would include redesigning the current payment flow with clearer messaging and overall user experience.

Research.

I had to do research on the following topics: What do current Toyota owners love, hate and wish about their app? Also, what competitors car companies implemented in their apps and how?

After that I came up with a proposed solution:

1. Improve consistency throughout the entire app experience.

2. Clearer visibility of system status. Offer informative feedback when appropriate.

3. Match design experience between system and the real world to achieve more cohesive experience.

4. Aestehtic and minilaist design.

Results.

Results.

As a result, I drove significant improvements: a +27% increase in user satisfaction, a +32.5% boost in app downloads, and a +3.8% rise in Toyota car sales, all by enhancing user experience and streamlining the app interface.
